“Movement is a medicine for creating change in a persons physical, emotional and mental states”
How can you add more physical activity into your day? Were all busy people and we don’t always have time to exercise more, we need to look at how to increase our current daily movement levels.
Think about physical activity as a lifestyle rather than just a single task to check off. Look at your daily routine and consider ways to sneak in activity here, there, and everywhere. All day every day.
There’s no single best way to fit more movement or physical activity into your day. Your lifestyle, job and family responsibilities will point to the most convenient time and place for fitness. Do what works for you – and make daily physical activity a habit you can keep.
You could start by keep a daily activity journal, record your current activity levels and then try and build upon these after a week of monitoring. You can increase physical activity by making some really simple tweaks to your behaviours and current routine.
Here are some ideas-
-Park your car a block further away from work and walk
-Take stairs instead of escalators and the lift
-Cycle or walk to work a couple of times per week
-Clean the house while listening to your favourite music
-Travel a lot for work? Buy a skipping rope and use it
-Stretch and do mobility work while watching TV
-Catching up with friends for coffee? Grab a take away, walk and talk
-Play with your kids, dog, cat or partner
-Walk to someones desk and have a conversation rather than always emailing at work
